"FREELANCE": PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION

Well on Friday 17th of October at Brisbane's Powerhouse Museum for the Visual and Performing Arts, FREELANCE  an exhibition combining the works of SBIT's 1st and 2nd year Diploma of Photography students had it's opening night!

I'm a second year student and I included two works myself: "Funky City" and "Self Portrait 2003", both of which display my photoshop skills and are both 16x20" and mounted.

A big congratulations to the first year students for organising such a fantastic event. (It's part of their assessment, we had one last year called EXPOSURE )

Anyways, it opened at 7pm that night and there were DJ's, a full bar and PLENTY of space to wander around and get lost in photographic prints!

It was wonderful seeing everyone's work displayed so professionally and proudly.  There is such a rich diversity of work coming out of our course, and they're all for SALE!!! (If you're interested in buying any after you have a look, contact the Powerhouse Museum Box Office)

We all got a bit tipsy and celebrated the event with a glass of red or two.  Every now and then you would hear a person say something about a print that would make you blush or raise your eyebrows!

So if you're in Brisbane before the 2nd of November, go and check it out - IT'S FREE!!! :)

MY TRIP TO BEN'S BIG BROTHER 3 EVICTION!!!

Well, I don't know about you but I've always wanted to be present at a big brother eviction just to feel the sheer excitement of it all and see the look on the evictee's face!

I was lucky enough to score a free ticket in the VIP silver section of the Big Brother Eviction open studio thanks to my best bud's boyfriend! (Thanks Adam!)

So Rin (My best bud) and I went down to Dreamworld to see the show. It was a surreal experience - that's for sure!

We walked into the opening of the eviction area and were buzzing with excitement! All the buzzing electric colours and people were overwhelming! (As it turned out, it was the biggest crowd that they'd had so far - 2,100 people!)

I had decided to make the most of it and wear some sort of costume. Initially when we lined up for entry, no one was dressed up which made me feel a little self-concious!

Playing on Jo's "PINK BERETS" tag that Gretel gave her, I made myself a couple of REAL pink berets and wore them proudly on my chest. (Much to the embarrassment of Rin!)

I had my photo taken by a corwd member when we sat down so I thought that I might have a chance to get on tv. We were sitting pretty close to the stage which was awesome! Mike Goldman of "Big Brother Uplate" was the crowd warmer and he was rather amusing! He also had a bet with Belinda's father over something that he ended up losing which required him to strip in from of the whole audience! Much to our delight he had a bra on underneath which he proceeded to toss into the crowd.

I was lucky enough to be spotted by some of the Big Brother camera crew who came up and asked to film my berets. I agreed and tweaked and squeezed them Briget Jones' Diary style, much to his amusement! (It might be on tv on a later eviction show!)

Then the show began. Gretel came out on stage to a sea of mental fans. She was very good at getting down to business, despite the crowds rowdiness.

She interviewed Belinda about being the first person to voluntarily exit the Big Brother house. Belinda was very gracious and sweet and the crowd really warmed to her.

In the ad breaks, Mike Goldman went around asking the crowd all sorts of things to make us laugh, and giving out prizes. I stood up and got him to notice my berets, to which he complemented me on! Then he gave me a copy of the McCleod's Daughters soundtrack. D'oh!

It was obvious that Ben was going to be evicted, despite his internet popularity. Rin and I didn't want him to go because everyone needs a bit of stirring from time to time! (But granted he did go a bit far in the end.)

When he was evicted the crowd went NUTS!!! It was the biggest eviction so far. When Ben arrived in the BB van, he had to wait inside for a few minutes listening to all of us cheering and jeering. When he emerged, he seemed stupefyed by all the commotion. Many people yelled out things like, "Ben's a LOSER!" and, "You can't hide from the mafia forever Ben!!!" not mention huge signs saying the same.

After Gretel gave him a good ribbing on stage, they brought out Belinda as a surprise guest. They hugged and he went on to explain his actions amidst the boos of the crowd.

When the show was over, I stood up and called to Belinda, who laughed and said, "They look great!" to my berets. Ben was allowed to go over to his girlfriend who had been waiting anxiously in the shadows and they hugged for ages. I guess she can forgive him?

After most people had left, I ran over to the crowd waiting to get Gretel's autograph. It only took me a few minutes to get to the front. I asked her politely if she good sign my berets for me, and she was more than happy to do so and complemented me on my work. I also asked if she could sign Rin and my shirts for us and congratulated her on her grace under pressure when handling Ben.

Well it certainly was a great night! GO REGGIE GO!!!!! :)
