*TATTOOS AND BODY PIERCING*

So you're interested in getting a tattoo and/or body piercing?  Well I'm going to give you the low down on my experiences in this area to help you make a decision yourself.

The Tattoo

Well I made a sudden decision earlier this year to FINALLY get a tattoo.  No one believed that I would do it as I was a BIG wuss with needles!

Anyways, I made an appointment for the Saturday, and went for it!

I had designed my tattoo myself to express my individuality and to be unique - afterall it is FOREVER!!!

After pacing around the shop with my brother Ryan and his gf Ayshea (She has had two massive beautiful ones done at this place) muttering excitedly to myself, the assistant photocopied my design and stenciled to my right upper arm. (It took a few goes to get it straight!)

Then I sat in the chair and Bernie the tattooist went to work on my arm.  I was transported to whole other world!  It felt like someone was pushing very hard on my arm with a ballpoint pen!  It hurt, but in a transcendental way.  I was so overcome at how well I was doing and the fact that I was finally doing it, that I nearly fainted!  But after a glass of water and a few deep breaths - it was FINISHED!!! (The whole time I was staring at a poster across the room of Mark Brandon "Chopper" Read!)

I had it covered in a bandage for a while and applied a tattoo after care balm for a couple of weeks.  I had to avoid direct sunlight and swimming for a while as not to damage the tattoo.  It also scabbed for a bit, and I couldn't scractch it!  If you do, some ink can come out!

My tattoo cost 120 dollars and took about 20 minutes to do.  I was treated wonderfully by the staff and everything went well.  I went to a wonderful shop in Brisbane City called WILD AT HEART TATTOO which I will DEFINATLEY recommend to anyone who is serious about getting a tattoo.  But remember - IT'S FOREVER!!!

The Tounge Piercing

I got my tongue pierced on August the 23rd this year at a fantastic place called, THE PIERCING SHOP  in Brisbane City.  This is the BEST place to go for quality and professionalism.

I went there with two of my best friends Rin and Toni, and they were more nervous than me!  ever since my tattoo, the idea of one needle seemed like almost nothing at all!

A girl who was before me however went in to get her tongue pierced and freaked out, so they held onto her and let her have some rest and orange juice.  It was a bit unnerving!

When it was my turn, I went through the sliding door and into the sterilised piercing room. (It looks like a weird dentists surgery - minus the drills!  Phew!)

I was giving the run down on what the piercer was going to do and had a mouth rinse.  Then I was offered a lavender oil temple massage to help relax any nerves.  Then the piercer arrived!

She showed me the instruments and the jewellery I had purchased that was sterilsed from their jewellery store.  I had selected the dearer option, the external threaded balls.  The screw is on the balls so there is less chance of it unscrewing, and the bar is of the highest grade surgical steel.  The bar was quite long too!

Then I sat in a funny chair, had my tongue pulled out as far as it would go, clamped and marked.  I was asked what I thought of the position before the procedure went ahead.

Then a BIG needle was pushed though the bottom of my clamped tongue.  There wasn't any pain, just a weird pressure sensation.  Then she threaded the bar and screwed the balls on.

I was amazed!  I had done it!  I couldn't talk properly as it felt huge in my mouth.  I was told to come back in 7-21 days for a bar downsize and check-up - and I went on my way!

My tounge soon swelled up and for the next few days, talking and eating were a real problem!  I rinsed with alcohol-free mouthwash to minimize the swelling and assist in healing.

After nearly, two weeks I had my check up and grateful downsize!  The bar felt huge after the swelling went down!  Now it's terrific!  I can accessorise! :)

My piercing cost 60 dollars and the barbell was 40 dollars.  It was definately worth the money and the staff really take care of you!

Make sure you go to a hygenic, reputable piercer who keeps their shop clean and know what they're doing.  If done incorrectly by ameteurs there can be horrendous side effects!!!

BRISBANE'S UGLIEST PETS!!!

On Tuesday the 15th of July, I was lucky enough to get on Channel 10 with my 10 year old Cavallier King Charles Spaniel, Sandy. Rove Live was having an ugly pet competition at Indooroopilly Shopping Centre with a prize of . My brother Ryan and I had the idea to bring Sandy in because of her grossly enlarged eye and habit of break dancing. My mother said that she'd be ropable if we did due to her age, but my brother was unaware of this and brought her anyway.

Sandy actually had a great time meeting lots of other animals and being thrown dog treats from the audience.

We were selected amongst other contestants from the crowd to go and sit in the mock pen area where Corinne Grant and the Rove Live camera crew were standing by. Corinne was very nice and professional about her task at hand and took a particular shine to Sandy.

When we were on television, Corinne came around and zoomed in on Sandy's 'scary eye' and Rove remarked how she looked like the woman from The Dark Crystal! The audience howled with laughter when they saw Sandy.

Corinne did very well, and like Gretel was very gracious to the public. She commented to me how she liked Sandy and hated being startled by someone's pet tarantula being an arachniphobic.

We didn't win, but a weird looking cat did, with whoever happened to be sitting around the cat's owner at the time recieving "What The...?" shirts and caps.

All in all it was a fun experience for all and even mum brightened up when she saw that Sandy had a good time and returned home unhurt.

The beauty of Sandy is that she is so cute...until you see the eye!!!

RECENT UPDATE: Sandy had to have her eye removed a few weeks ago as it was causing her much pain.  :(  But now it has healed over and she's as energetic as ever!  She's 11 years old next month!  Now we lovingly call her, Blinky.

The tattoo I designed myself the day it was done, January 20th 2003 (Notice the redness around the edge and minor swelling and scabbing)
